Our Cape Town factory brings the complete manufacturing process together under one roof. Metal components are cut, formed and precisely machined before being prepared for powder coating or other application-specific finishes.

LED printed circuit boards are populated on our in-house Surface Mount Technology line and integrated with carefully selected drivers, optics, housings and control components. The fittings are then assembled, inspected and tested before leaving our facility.

Keeping these capabilities in-house gives us greater control over quality, production lead times and customisation. It also allows us to manufacture standard products at scale while remaining flexible enough to develop specialised solutions for unique projects.

A Showroom Designed to Be Experienced

Our showroom is more than a display of products. It is an experiential and educational space that takes visitors through the science, technology and practical application of light.

Customers can experience how colour temperature, beam angle, intensity, glare, positioning and lighting controls influence a space. They can compare different solutions and understand how lighting affects architecture, merchandise, productivity, comfort and human wellbeing.

The showroom allows our customers to make informed decisions by experiencing the result before selecting a solution.

How an LED Fitting Is Manufactured

Every LED Lighting SA product follows a structured manufacturing process designed to achieve consistent performance and reliability.

Production begins with approved designs, drawings, component specifications and bills of materials. Incoming raw materials and electronic components are inspected before entering production.

Metal housings and structural components are cut, punched, bent or machined before being finished for their intended application. Our SMT line then populates the LED and electronic components directly onto printed circuit boards.

These boards are inspected and assembled with the required drivers, wiring, optics, thermal-management components and control technology. The completed fitting moves through electrical, functional and visual inspections before undergoing final testing and soak testing.

Only once every requirement has been met is the product approved for dispatch.

Engineering the Product Before It Reaches Production

Every successful LED product starts with a clearly defined requirement.

Our engineering team considers where the product will be installed, the required light output, mounting method, environmental conditions, expected service life, control requirements and commercial objectives.

The optical, electrical, mechanical and thermal elements are developed as one complete system. LED selection, driver compatibility, heat management, material choice, beam control, ingress protection and ease of installation are considered from the beginning.

Concepts are transformed into detailed 3D models and production drawings before prototypes are manufactured and evaluated. Photometric, thermal, electrical and mechanical testing allows our engineers to refine the design and confirm its performance.

Once validated, the product moves into design-for-manufacture. Tooling, jigs, assembly methods, inspection requirements and bills of materials are finalised before pilot production confirms that the fitting can be manufactured safely, efficiently and consistently.

Designing the Complete Environment

A successful project requires more than choosing individual products. Our Lighting and Audio-Visual Design team develops coordinated layouts that consider how people will use, experience and move through a space.

Using AutoCAD, 3D modelling and specialist lighting-design software, the team evaluates:

• Fixture positions and mounting heights
• Required light levels and uniformity
• Beam angles and glare
• Colour temperature and energy consumption
• Control zones
• Speaker positioning and audio coverage
• Display locations and viewing angles
• Equipment placement and cabling routes

Customers receive clear drawings, layouts, schedules and technical information ready for pricing, coordination and installation. Planning these systems together reduces uncertainty on site and helps ensure that the completed environment performs as intended.

Quality Is Proven Before Dispatch

Quality is built into every stage of our operation.

Our SABS-approved and ISO 9001-certified facility operates according to controlled processes, with our manufacturing and quality systems also approved in accordance with Alstom QMS requirements.

Incoming components, work-in-progress assemblies and completed products are checked against defined specifications. Our facility supports electrical, functional, photometric, thermal and environmental testing.

Every fitting leaving LED Lighting SA undergoes 100% testing and soak testing. Production and inspection records provide traceability and help us identify potential component, assembly or performance concerns before a product reaches the customer.

For us, quality is not simply a final inspection. It is a disciplined approach applied throughout the product’s design and manufacturing journey.

Commissioning the Complete System

Commissioning is the point where individual products become a fully functioning solution.

Our technical team commissions lighting automation, audio and visual installations according to each project’s operating requirements. This may include:

• Device addressing
• Sensor calibration
• Lighting zones
• Scene programming
• Scheduling
• Control-platform integration

Audio systems are configured and balanced to achieve the correct coverage across each zone, while visual systems are set up for reliable display, switching and control.

The completed installation is tested under real operating conditions and adjusted where necessary. We work alongside customers, consultants and installation teams to resolve outstanding items, confirm system performance and complete the handover.

Where required, users are also trained to operate and manage the system confidently from day one.

Support That Continues After Installation

Our relationship with a customer does not end when a product is delivered or a project is commissioned.

LED Lighting SA has a dedicated after-sales service team and an on-call manager responsible for coordinating support. Our technical teams across South Africa can provide remote assistance, fault finding and on-site support where required.

Our local engineering and manufacturing capabilities give us direct access to product knowledge, replacement components, repair facilities and production history. This allows us to investigate the underlying cause of a problem and deliver a practical, lasting solution.
